The Global Family Business Champions

Family Business United Has Its Own Official Tartan!

Updated: Dec 10, 2024

Family Business United is delighted to announce that we now have our very own official tartan having worked with Houston Kiltmakers who are a 4th generation family business with over 100 years experience as gentleman's outfitters, highland wear and tartan specialists.

The tartan has been officially registered on the Scottish Tartan Register and has been based on the colours of the Union Jack, the United Kingdom’s flag, to represent the family firms from all corners of the country that make a significant contribution to the national economy. The red is highlighted as recognition of the Family Business United logo and the green references the original brand colour of the organisation and is a nod to the Scottish landscape and the contribution of Scottish family firms to the Family Business United community.

As Paul Andrews, Founder and CEO of Family Business United explains, "As an organisation we have a very strong and loyal membership base in Scotland and host numerous events to support the community across Scotland every year. We spend a lot of time visiting and engaging with family firms across Scotland and with tartan being such an iconic association with Scotland thought that now was the time to invest in the development of our own tartan too."

"The fact that Houston Kiltmakers are a fourth generation family business was the ideal partner for us on the project and Ewan and his team have been fantastic from start to finish. They have taken our idea and turned it into a beautiful tartan and one that we will celebrate with pride."

"We have a number of plans to make use of the tartan as part of the essence of who we are as an organisation too. We are delighted with the tartan, the narrative behind it and love the fact that we can now create an authenticity about our brand in Scotland too," concludes Paul.
