The Global Family Business Champions

The National Family Business Survey 2025

Updated: Aug 13, 2025

Each year, Family Business United undertakes a short survey to gauge the views of the family business community and we are delighted to be taking the pulse of the family business sector again this year.

Given some of the changes announced over the past year or so, and in advance of the Autumn Budget where more changes may well be on the horizon, we wanted to gauge opinion as to the current challenges being faced by family firms across the UK and to quantify the key topics on Board agendas and being discussed by family business owners, as well as to determine some of the questions that the community would like to see addressed.

The short survey seeks to quantify the degree of optimism, the key challenges on the family business agenda, asks what they could like the Government to amend/review/reverse and seeks to determine the changing leadership landscape and whether the next leader is likely to be a family member or not.

As Paul Andrews, Founder and CEO of Family Business United explains, "The business landscape remains a challenging one and we are keen to determine the agenda in advance of any more announcements in order to share the findings and provide an opportunity for them to have an influence."

"Family businesses are the engine room of the national economy, contribute significantly in terms of employment, income generation, wealth creation and the support of the communities in which they operate."
"They also take a long term view, planning in terms of generations and not just the next couple of years, and they need support in order to continue to build sustainable businesses for generations to come."

"We want to encourage as many family businesses as possible to share their views and help us to amplify the family business voice, to raise further awareness of concerns and to seek to put the family business agenda forward. We look forward to sharing the results in due course."

Family businesses are encouraged to share their thoughts in the survey below.

Results will be published in the Autumn.
