Bagnalls is delighted to announce a new milestone in its long-standing relationship with Dulux and parent company AkzoNobel. A partnership that has thrived since the 1920s has now grown even stronger, with Dulux transferring part of its apprenticeship levy to Bagnalls to further invest in developing the next generation of painting and decorating professionals.
This contribution will play a vital role in supporting Bagnalls’ expanding apprenticeship programme and in nurturing the skilled craftspeople required to uphold the exceptional standards both companies are known for.
Nick Halton, National Contract Manager at Dulux, commented: “The Bagnalls team has always been heavily involved in supporting our Dulux Academy, as they encourage and nurture the painters and decorators of the future. We are delighted to be able to support the team by transferring across some of our levy. We’re really looking forward to seeing the apprentices as they progress!”
The announcement comes at an exciting time for the industry, with the reinstatement of the Level 3 Craft Painting and Decorating Apprenticeship—a long-term goal championed by the Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) and its Training Committee. Its return this year marks the first opportunity since 2019 for advanced upskilling in decorative craft techniques.
Nineteen Bagnalls apprentices who have already achieved their Level 2 qualification across four colleges will now progress onto the Level 3 programme. This includes several painters who completed their apprenticeships in recent years but were previously unable to continue to the next stage due to the qualification’s suspension.
The Level 3 apprenticeship will provide enhanced decorative skills alongside essential technical expertise, preparing apprentices to take on more intricate projects and ensuring continuity of craftsmanship as experienced decorators approach retirement.
Kirsty Stokes, HR and Learning Development Advisor at Bagnalls, said: “It’s fab to hear that the Level 3 apprenticeship is back! This qualification is invaluable in terms of enhancing skills and unlocking even more potential, especially when it comes to intricate or demanding projects. I can’t wait to see what the next intake of apprentice talent has to offer!”
With strengthened support from Dulux and renewed opportunities for advanced training, Bagnalls remains committed to cultivating exceptional talent and securing the future of craftsmanship within the painting and decorating industry.
