Pimlico Plumbers Grows Its Workforce

Family firm gears up for the winter period with more staff.
Pimlico Plumbers, the UK’s largest independent plumbing company, has grown its workforce of professional tradespeople to 200 for the first time in its history as it prepares for a busy winter period.
The Central London-based company has recruited 30 additional experienced plumbers, heating engineers and electricians and is hoping to appoint a further 10 engineers before the end of the year.
Although London experienced a mild autumn and winter in 2012, Pimlico Plumbers still recorded record sales for the period but, with some forecasters predicting extreme winter conditions for the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014, the company is expecting a surge in emergency call out jobs in the coming months.
Over the past three years, the company, which offers a 24 hour service, has seen weekly winter call outs increase by more than 10 percent. On average, during the winter, the company service 2,000 jobs per week.
Charlie Mullins, Managing Director of Pimlico Plumbers, said: “Last year’s mild winter coincided with the first indications of returning public confidence, which saw us servicing more planned maintenance projects than emergency call outs."
However indications suggest very cold winter conditions will return to the UK with a vengeance this year, which will no doubt lead to more calls outs for issues like frozen pipes and central heating system repairs.
With an expanded workforce we will be able to better service the balance between planned maintenance jobs and the expected surge in emergency call outs.
He added: “Building a team of 200 experienced engineers serving the capital is a very satisfying achievement that I always hoped I’d achieve when I set the business up on my own 34 years ago."
“Through hard work, clever management and by delivering a reputable service, we have enjoyed continual growth, even during the economy’s tough periods."
“Now we are seeing a recovery in the economy, we are seeing an increase in both new and returning customers who are more confident about the future.”
