New Driver For Weir Rallying UK
19th February 2019 Paul Andrews
Family firm is delighted to announce that Alex Allingham will be joining the Weir Rallying UK team ahead of the Sol Rally, Barbados in 2019.
Following their fantastic success in the 2018 event, Weir Rallying UK have appointed a new driver for the 2019 season. Alex joins the team with a wealth of experience and successes to date, including winning the Welsh National forest rally championship outright in 2010, 2011 and 2014 and having competed at Rally GB. He’s taking the seat from Dave Jenkins who took the team to success during Sol Rally Barbados 2018.
“It’s great to be part of Weir Rallying UK – we’ve been in discussions for quite some time and I’m now keen to get behind the wheel. I’m looking forward to taking the team to new heights in 2019.”
Sitting alongside Alex will be Ross Weir, Managing Director of HJ WEIR, Weir Laundry Equipment and WeCoTec, with the Team Principle Rob Weir remaining at the helm.
There’s been more than just a driver change for Weir Rallying, following some ‘issues’ in Barbados and the cars reaction to the heat, the team took the big decision to switch to a brand new Jondel engine. Known for it’s high levels of performance, they feel this is the right step for the team to achieve greater success in 2019. They’re currently carrying out extensive tests on the new engine to ensure they’ve optimised performance for the season.
The BRC’s premier event has grown into the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International and a keystone of the island’s sports-tourism calendar; it contributes around Bds $4 million to the economy and accounts for more than 4,000 visitor nights each year. Running during the first weekend of June 2019, with the ‘King of the Hill Shakedown’ the weekend prior will set the running order for the main event.
Rob commented “We’re excited to have Alex as part of the team, with our new engine installed and tested, we feel they’re a winning combination to take us to success in 2019.”
