Sleep specialists Duvalay have won a prestigious ‘Manufacturing Innovation Award’ at the 2019 Made in Yorkshire Awards, which celebrate world-class manufacturers from across the region.
The announcement was made at a glittering reception hosted by Insider Media – the UK’s most successful B2B media company – and held at the Hilton City Hotel in Leeds.
The West Yorkshire-based manufacturers, who are a BBC Dragons’ Den success story, came out on top in a category designed to recognise a company that has generated a substantial return and impact at both a national and international level for an innovative product designed and manufactured in Yorkshire.
Sales & Marketing Director Liz Colleran said: “Every day, we search for new ways to make it easier to sleep better and we are so grateful to the judges for recognising our commitment to ongoing innovation. We continue to be inspired by the words of Sir Richard Branson, who said: ‘Everyone should have a Duvalay’.”
Duvalay’s in-house product development team worked alongside component suppliers to create revolutionary cooling FreshTec foam, which has increased airflow properties for a fresher night’s sleep.
The FreshTec product range was unveiled at the National Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show and received widespread caravan industry approval. FreshTec has since become the company’s best-selling option in both the sleeping bag and topper categories.
“From a clever new foam that cools you down to lightweight mattresses made from recycled Coca-Cola bottles, the judges praised our innovative solutions to everyday sleep-related problems,” explained Liz.
The past 12 months has been a period of substantial growth for Duvalay; a new partnership with GO Outdoors led to a nationwide product launch in more than 60 stores.
The family-run business was selected to supply high-quality holiday home mattresses to Arleigh International – stockists of the largest range of static caravan parts and accessories in Europe.
‘Bed Manufacturer of the Year’ recognition at Britain’s Bed Industry Awards followed for the second year in a row.
“We’ve no intention of slowing down; in fact, we’ll soon be revealing some exciting expansion news!” added Liz. “Along with my husband Alan, I am so grateful to all our valued customers, our team, our suppliers and our retail partners, whose ongoing support is the foundation of our success.”
The 2019 Made in Yorkshire Awards were sponsored by Ameresco, HSBC UK, Michael Page Engineering & Manufacturing and Vanilla Solutions.
