£10 million worth of sales for the second half of 2013 as householder consumer habits switch from ‘make do and mend’ to investing in their properties.
Pimlico Plumbers, the UK’s largest independent home services company, has reported almost £10million worth of sales for the second half of 2013 as householder consumer habits switch from ‘make do and mend’ to investing in their properties.
The central London-based company, which employs a team of 200 experienced professional tradespeople, achieved sales of £9.94million between July and December 2013, an increase of £1.24 million on the same period in 2012.
Significantly, the figures represent a record 16 month-on-month increase for the company, which included almost reaching its target of sales worth £2million in a single month when it turned over £1.94m in both October and November 2013.
Pimlico Plumbers founder and Managing Director, Charlie Mullins, has highlighted not only an increase in the volume of work completed by the company, but also the type of work undertaken.
Alongside its continually busy emergency response service, new and existing customers are engaging the company for larger, planned projects such as kitchen and bathroom installations or new heating systems.
Charlie said: “Over the last year we have seen a clear shift in the spending habits of our customers, which has really picked up pace in the last six months. It was clear that not only were we getting more work, but also the type of work that people were having done was changing."
“The austerity strategies of doing just enough to keep properties from falling into disrepair were replaced with thoughts for the future. Our customers were once again investing in their homes and properties."
“However, no matter how sure you are of what you’re seeing with your own eyes, after such a harsh few years in the economy you really do find yourself wondering if it’s real. Is this just a temporary recovery, some kind of false thaw that will descend back into an even deeper economic winter?"
“I am happy to say that this hasn’t happened, in the wider economy or with Pimlico Plumbers. The last 6 months was incredible good for us with sales of £9.94 million, which is almost a million and a quarter above what we did in the same period at the end of 2012."
“With this big finish to 2013, which came so close to our first £10 million half year, the company is well on target to record our first ever financial year sales above £20 million.”
