Family firms secures latest team member via a social media campaign!
An aspiring plumber from Hertford has secured a unique placement with the UK’s leading plumbing company, Pimlico Plumbers, after applying via Twitter.
Roman Goodey, 16, entered a challenge on the social network to write in less than 140 characters why he deserved the paid placement at Pimlico.
He will spend two days a week at the Central London Company, alongside his studies at Oaklands College, where he is working towards NVQ Level 2 in plumbing.
Roman has since been inducted, received his new uniform, and has started his paid work experience.
He will receive just over £1,000 for his placement. At the end of the placement he will have the chance to secure a place on the company’s apprenticeship programme, subject to his performance, an interview and Pimlico’s apprenticeship recruitment criteria.
Roman said “When I saw Pimlico’s Twitter competition I jumped at the chance and entered immediately. I’m studying plumbing at college, but there’s no better way to learn than ‘on the job’ experience so this was too good a chance to ignore."
“I am very proud to be working for Pimlico as it has a fantastic reputation for supporting young people, and hope that this may lead to a permanent apprenticeship.”
Charlie Mullins, founder of Pimlico Plumbers, said: “It is great to welcome Roman to Pimlico Plumbers; he is a thoroughly deserving winner and has shown his hunger to make to the most of this great opportunity."
“Apprenticeships are the perfect route into a career in plumbing. I should know, I started as an apprentice and haven’t been out of work since! They provide the skills and experience necessary to be the foundations for future success. I wish Roman luck and hope he grasps the opportunity with both hands.”
