New PR Partnership Puts Family Firms In The Spotlight

13th March 2019 Paul Andrews

A husband and wife team who launched a DIY PR company for small businesses have teamed up with Family Business United to boost the profile of its members.

PressPlugs, a journalist request service helping businesses on a budget access opportunities from some of the biggest media organisations including the BBC, ITV and Telegraph is the brainchild of Tracy and Mike Nolan.

Its simple format opens up a new marketing avenue to businesses not able to afford PR agencies said Tracy, who helped set up the business in 2018, which was named as one of the start-ups you need to know about of 2018 by the Just Entrepreneurs website.

“We see it as an obvious partnership to team up with FBU, as our whole business and life is very much geared around our two children” said mother of two Tracy. “We like the FBU message that family firms are so very different to other organisations and need individual support allowing for the delicate dynamics of a family run organisation.”

“We hope many family businesses find PressPlugs a gateway into a world of opportunity they have never before been able to access.”

Some PressPlugs users have already hugely boosted their business’s profile being cited as experts on media outlets, such as BBC Radio 5Live, The Guardian and Metro. However, despite its obvious advantages, many businesses do not use PR as a marketing avenue.

“It is proven that Public Relations is a far more powerful way of getting noticed than advertising, but it does require a mind-set where organisations like the media spotlight,” added the Birmingham based mum. “Once businesses embrace the platform they really can see positive results.”

In the link up, FBU members are entitled to a 15% discount on monthly subscriptions and a huge 35% on annual memberships, when they sign up after the free 14 day trial.

Paul Andrews, Founder of Family Business United said he hoped more would understand the importance of the soft approach of PR as opposed to just relying on advertising and selling messages on social media.

“Being quoted in the national press can make a massive difference to the profile of family firms and story-telling is becoming increasingly important in that it can differentiate them to the wider market place in a more subtle and engaging way,” he said.  “The process is simple.  Registration involves completing a profile and alerts are then sent by email direct to your inbox from journalists at leading publications/programmes with details.  It you are able to help and feel you want to comment then all you have to do is respond and hopefully be quoted in the media. It's as simple as that and the fact that PressPlugs is a family owned business is a real bonus too!

Tracy Nolan said she hoped her and her fellow partner and journalist husband, Mike could help family businesses to start debates unique to their niche.

“Unquestionably, in a complex world, family businesses don’t really have the platform they should,” she added. "It’s good that FBU is addressing this so admirably and we hope the media will sit up and take note.”

Notes - Ordinarily £29 plus VAT per month or £348 + VAT per year, FBU members have been given a 15% discount on a monthly subscription to £24.65 + VAT or £226.20 + VAT for an annual subscription.  With no contracts, and an initial free 14 day trial, the service is an ideal way for many of our members to market themselves in a manner that had previously seemed unaffordable.

Find out more and register for the free 14 day trial here and during the trial period the team at PressPlugs will be in touch.  If you decide to continue the subscription and organise your discount, just mention in the ‘how did you find us’ box at registration that you are an FBU member and they’ll do the rest.  Any questions, email the team on enquiries@pressplugs.co.uk
